Date: 18 Feb. 1784 Benjamin Harrison Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia To all to whom these presents shall come greeting KNOW YE that in Consideration of the Ancient Composition of three pounds five Shillings Sterling paid by Eliphaz Shelton into the Treasury of the Commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Eliphaz Shelton a Certain Tract or parcel of Land Containing Five Hundred & thirty one Acres by survey bearing date the twenty ninth day of April One Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty lying and being in the County of Henry on the Waters of Mayo River and Bounded as followeth, to wit, BEGINNING at Carters Corner Black walnut tree, thence new lines North forty five degrees West fifty eight poles to a Linn tree North fifty six degrees East Seventy two poles Crossing a Branch to a Chesnut tree North forty three degrees East Sixty three poles to a Chesnut tree North Sixty seven degrees East Sixty poles to a Chesnut tree North Eighty one degrees East One Hundred and ten poles to a Chesnut and South thirty two degrees East Eighty poles to a Chesnut oak South six degrees East One Hundred and Seventy two poles Crossing two Branches to a Chesnut tree South ten degrees East one hundred and fifty four poles to a Hickory West forty three poles to a Locust tree North Sixty five degrees West Ninety three poles to a Chesnut oak West thirty seven poles to Carters Corner black gum, crossing a Branch North thirty seven degrees West Sixty six poles to a poplar, North fifty six degrees West Ninety five poles to a poplar north twenty degrees West Eighty four poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances To have and To hold this said Tract or parcel of Land with its appurtenances to the said Eliphaz Shelton and his Heirs forever In witness whereof the said Benjamin Harrison Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath hereunto set his hand and caused the lesser seal of the said Commonwealth To be afixed at Richmond on the Eighteenth day of February in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty four and of the Commonwealth the Eighth.
