Let the Court certify that such proof was made before them and mention the regiment he was in and his age. An officer certificate would do but if that cannot be had then ____ above to prove it by same. Let the state of his wounds and how much it disabled him be set forth. (Signature cut off on bottom of note.) ***Document hard to read states that Griffith was placed on the Pension list, but never reapplied through neglect of attorney. Griffith was the only pensioner on the list from Henry County; he was reassigned to the list because of dire circumstances. It appears Henry County was remote. James Wood certified his placement of pension list in 1788. To the Worships? for the Council of Henry County: I do certify in obedience to an order from Council that in that case made. I have _____ examined Griffin Griffith who was wounded in the service of the United States and his wounds are as follows, Struck with a ball in the straight muscals (muscles) of the thigh and has damage said that ___ very much. Also below the calf of his legg which with all the posanus? disabled him much. Also the wounds are so bad that there is danger of mortification. Certificate under my hand this 25th day of October 1790. Signed: John Nicholas, Surgeon Henry County Court This day came Griffin Griffith before me a Justice of the Peace and made oath he enlisted a Continental soldier for two years in the Sixth Virginia Regiment and served his time faithfully and received his wounds at the Battle of Gilford (Guilford) when in the line of his duty.
