A double homicide occurred at Bassett Wednesday morning when William Posey Hancock, 40, slew his wife, Serena Hancock, 30, and then turned a gun against his body and fatally wounded himself, he dying in a local hospital here that night. No reasons were given for the dual tragedy. Hancock, about nine o’clock, went from this home to his garage, next door, where he procured a shot gun. A few minutes after he returned to his home, several shots rang out, and neighbors ran into the residence to investigate. They found Mrs. Hancock lying on the floor of the kitchen. A short distance away, the husband was found, suffering from a gunshot wound. Hancock with his family, had made Bassett their home for nearly ten years, coming there from the western section of Franklin county. He conducted a general automobile repair business. The family resided at the north end of the main street of the Furniture City with the garage next to the residence. Two children survive. Funeral services were scheduled to have been held yesterday.
