Martinsville Bulletin, January 5, 1959
MARTINSVILLE BULLETIN, Mon., Jan. 5, 1959, p. 2, col. 9 [edited]. Mrs. Abby Gail 
Elgin, 83, died Sunday in Martinsville. She was the widow of J. A. Elgin of 
Patrick County. Survivors: two daughters, Mrs. Mary Via Vernon of Bassett and Mrs. 
Annie Bryant Richardson of Martinsville. Buried Mt. Herman Church cemetery, 
Bassett.

Additional Comments:
Her parents are unknown at this time (December 23, 2021).   She married George 
J. Bryant on April 27, 1899. His first wife passed away during the same month. 
She was 24 years of age at the time and George was 53. They had three daughters 
before he passed away in 1915.  Seventeen years later, she married John Abe 
Elgin.  Four years later he also passed away.
