Wells The following is a transcription of a copy of the marriage license of John Ivie and Elizabeth E. Wells received from the Henry County, VA, Circuit Court. Note: John Ivie is transcribed as John Ivil in several places. Know all men by these presents, That we John Ivie and Sterling Wells are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Wilson C. Nicholas Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and to his successors in office, for the use of the Commonwealth in the just and full sum of one hundred and Fifty dollars--to which payment, well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and each of us, our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents--sealed with our seals and dated this 19th day of August 1816. The Condition of the above obligation is such, That whereas, the above bound John Ivie hath this day obtained a license for his intermarriage with Elizabeth E. Wells of the said County. Now, if there is lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then this obligation to void, else remain in force and virtue. Ivy & Susannah Wells The following is a transcription of a copy of the marriage license of John W. Ivy and Susannah Wells received from the Henry Co, VA, Circuit Court. Know all men by these presents that we Jno W Ivy & Baker Wells are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Wilson Cary [?] Nicholes [Nicholas] Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and his successors in office, for the use of the commonwealth in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars--to which payment, well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and each of us, our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents-- Sealed with our seals and dated this 10 day of October 1815. The Condition of the above obligation is such, That whereas the above bound Jno W Ivy hath this day obtained a license for his intermarriage with Susannah Wells of the said County. now, if there is no lawfu cause to obstruct the said marriage, then this obligation to be void else remain in full force and virtue. Nelson Ivy & Catherine T. Wells The following is a transcription of a copy of the marriage license of Nelson Ivy and Catharine T. Wells received from the Henry Co, VA, Circuit Court. Know all men by these presents, That we Nelson Ivy and William Wells are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth [the name is left blank and "Esq Governor of" & "of Virginia, and his successors" are marked through], in the sum of one hundred and fifty Dollars, to the payment whereof, well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, Executors, and Administrators jointly, and severally, firmly by these presents, sealed with our sealed with our seals, and dated this 16 day September 1846. The Condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas a marriage is intended to be solemnized between the above bound Nelson Ivy and Catharine T. Wells of Henry County. Now if there be no lawful cause, to obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue.
