WILL OF THOMAS GIBSON HENRY COUNTY, VIRGINIA Will Book ? pp30-31 Dated 3 January 1780 Probated 23 March 1780 To my loving wife Marey Gibson and my daughter Cuzziah Gibson my whole estate. Zackeriah King, Joel Gibson and Lambert Dotson executors. Thomas (x) Gibson wit: Charles (x) More, Joseph (x) Nicols, William (x) More. """""""""""""""""""" 23 March 1780. Exhibited by Joel Gibson who gave bond with Lambeth Dodson and Champain Gibson as his securities. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% >From Lin: This will draws some sort of link between (1) this bondsman Champain Gibson (is he the Champ Gibson [1746-1820] of Rockingham Co NC whose land was divided among 10 named children after his death?), (2) this executor Joel Gibson (is he the Joel Gibson of the 18th-century Caswell Co NC tax lists?) and (3) this testator Thomas Gibson, who is a namesake for my younger Thomas Gibson (b c1797 in Rockingham Co NC but lived most of his life in Caswell Co NC). Henry Co VA, as you may know, is adjacent to Rockingham Co NC, which is adjacent to Caswell Co NC, so we are talking about the right geographical area here. All these people, whether related or not, lived near each other. Speculation: I infer (but welcome your observations) that the testator HAD NO SONS - hence, he left his estate to his wife and daughter. He seems to have had only one child, "Cuzziah" (was she a Keziah?) Gibson. Her age isn't revealed, but she seems not to have married yet so may be at the oldest a very young woman. This testator Thomas Gibson, then, seems to me to be a relatively young man himself, dying before he had time to leave a large family; therefore, he would seem more likely to be a brother than to be the father of Champ Gibson and/or Joel Gibson. In any case, I think this is enough to encourage any descendants of Champain Gibson, Joel Gibson and Thomas Gibson to turn our search engines on Henry Co VA, don't you? Are any of you list members familiar with this county or with this testator? Full credit and thanks to my newly found cousin Linda Lepow of Virginia Beach, Virginia, who found this will for us!
