Highland County, Virginia DATE: 1843, date of oldest inscription. OWNERS: Misses Lucy and Elizabeth Hiner, present owners. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This is a private graveyard of the Chestnut, Bird and Hiner families. It is in very good condition, enclosed with a wire fence. Some of the oldest graves have no markers. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Chestnut and Bird families were among the first people to settle in this vicinity. They came here about 1780. Inscriptions: John Chestnut Died Feb. 21, 1854 Aged 66 years 5 Mo. D.B. 1845 Age 55 yr. S.B. 1843 E. Bird 1846 Age 22 yr.
