HIGHLAND COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Campbell Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Campbell graveyard: 1936 Oct. 6 Research made by Howard Hiner Cemetery Location: 1 mile south of Hightown, Virginia, near the Dudley home. Highland County, Virginia DATE: 1846, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: Campbell family, W.H. Dudley, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is in very bad condition and looks as if a tornado had struck it. The stones, which are of a nice and expensive variety, are nearly all lying on the ground and some are broken. Briars are so thick it is difficult to get to the different graves. A wire fence prevents stock from entering. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Campbell family lived in this section from about 1800 to 1875, being heavy landholders as well as people who held positions of honor and trust. A few of the descendants still live in other parts of the county, but many of them have migrated to the west and north. Inscriptions: In memory of Susan H. Wife of E. Campbell Died Jan. 17, 1852 Aged 8 years 1 mo. & 17 days In memory of William C. Son of E. & S.H. Campbell Died Jan. 17, 1846 Aged 4 years 7 mo. & 14 days Samuel W.
