Campbell graveyard: 1936 Nov. 25 Research made by Howard Hiner Cemetery Location: At Valley Center, Virginia Highland County, Virginia DATE: None. OWNERS: Harry Lightner DESCRIPTION: It was a private graveyard of the Thomas Campbell family and contains a number of markers. It is practically in the woods today. The hill on which it is situated was at one time in grass, but it is now covered with pine trees of considerable size. It is not fenced in, except a small portion that is partly fenced with pickets and boards. This portion is of the immediate Campbell Family. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Campbells although not among the earliest of the pioneer settlers, were among the most prominent families in the early annals of this county. The first settler of this family name was Alexander who came to this county in 1797. His son Thomas born in 1800 and buried here was the first county surveyor and helped survey Highland County boundary line in 1847. The inscriptions are: Elizabeth Wife of Thomas Campbell 1800 – 1857 Patience K. Campbell 1834 – 1834 Rebecca A. Campbell 1835 – 1837 Albert Campbell 1838 – 1859 Rebecca P.
