Highland County, Virginia DATE: None. OWNERS: Present owner (1937) John Briscoe DESCRIPTION: It is a private graveyard and is in fair condition being enclosed with a good fence. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Many of the older graves here are not marked except with native stones with no inscriptions. As history records this to be one of last sections of county to be settled, this graveyard is perhaps not as old as most of those on Back Creek proper. The only inscription is: Margaret Gum Born in 1814 Died May 18, 1848 Aged 34 years SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Information was obtained from visit to the site, from Elza Terry of the community, and from Oliver Gum of Hightown, Va., age 86 and relative of people buried here. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
