OWNERS: Wilde Bird (1936) DESCRIPTION: This is a private graveyard and the condition is fair, it is enclosed with a good fence, but brush and briars have grown up in recent years. Most of the graves have nice markers. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Mathenys settled here in 1790. Abijah Matheny buried here in 1837 had a large family. His son Jacob C. was a Captain in the Confederate service, and was twice wounded, at McDowell and Spotsylvania. He later served Highland County for 44 years as County clerk, being succeeded by his sons who held this office for a number of years. There are very few people of this family name living in the county at present. The inscriptions are: Abijah Matheny Died Aug. 3, 1837 David B. Matheny Born Oct. 2, 1829 Died May 10, 1836 Jared M.
