HIGHLAND COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Sitlington Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Sitlington graveyard: 1936 Oct. 9 Research made by Howard Hiner Cemetery Location: From Monterey, Virginia to 7 miles north on Route #230; thence 3 miles northwest on Route #284 to Crabbottom, Virginia. The graveyard is by the site of the old Goshen Church – now known a Crabbottom Presbyterian Church. It is 1 mile north of New Hampdan near the residence of R. H. Crummet. Highland County, Virginia DATE: 1841, date of oldest inscription. OWNERS: Trustees of Goshen Church 1837 Trustees or Crabbottom Presbyterian Church, present owners. (1936) DESCRIPTION: The graveyard is enclosed with a good fence and is in fair condition. It is kept clear of brush and undergrowth. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This graveyard was first used by the Sitlington family, who were large landholders and very influential citizens among the early settlers of the Crabbottom valley. Inscriptions: Sarah Jane wife of T.O. Sitlington and Daughter of Samuel Hurther Died Sept. 6, 1841 Aged 25 yrs. 7 mo. & 6 ds. She always made home happy. John Knox Emerson Son of Rev. L. & C.M.E.
