Highland County, Virginia DATE: 1852, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: James Slaven and his descendants, Mrs. H. H. Slaven, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: This is a private graveyard enclosed by a board fence and it is in nice shape. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: During the War Between the States a number of soldiers died in this vicinity while marching through and were buried in this graveyard. There are no markers and their names are unknown. Inscriptions: Mary Warwick wife of James Slaven Died Mar. 2, 1853 aged 31 yrs. I know that my redeemer liveth Mary Edmonia daughter of James Slaven Died Mar. 7, 1853 Aged 8 ds. Edmonia Stuart Daughter of James Slaven Died July 30, 1852 Aged 1 yr.
