Highland County, Virginia DATE: None. OWNERS: S. D. Timberlake (1936) DESCRIPTION: It is a private graveyard and is in a bad condition. It is near the center of a field, and no fence surrounds it, brush has grown up and rocks from the field have been thrown around the edge. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Quite a few of the early settlers of this section of the County were buried here. They were mostly of Irish descent. John Sproul of Ireland, one of the early school teachers of the county, who taught at the mouth of Dry Branch in 1790, is said to be buried here. This graveyard bears no inscriptions before 1860, but from the nearest estimate it was first used about 1800.
