DESCRIPTION: Here lyeth the body of one Randall who departed this life the 23th day Anno. Dom. 1696. Sacred to ye memory of the Honble Joseph Bridger Esq. Councelr of State in Virginia T. King Charles ye 2d. Dying April ye 15; A.D. 1686. Aged 58 years; Mournfully left His wife, 3 Sons & 4 Daughters. “Does Nature silent mourn & can dumb stone Make his true worth to future ages knowne excells ex- pression marble sure will keep His Mem’ry best ye ever on his grave shall weep. Here lies ye late great Minister of State That Royal virtues had & Royal fate To Charles his Councels did such honors bring. His own express fetched him t’attend ye King His Soul yt ev’r w’th vigour move nimbly took wing soard like it selfe above For ye bright stars n nev’r layfily decline, But in an instant shoot yt cease to shine,” HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This information was secured from the grave itself and from Miss Virginia Hayden’s pamphlet on “Old Brick Church”.
