These p'sents witnesseth y.t I Jn.o BROOKS being bound A Serv.t by Indenture 
for 3 years to W.m MARTIN att the Toley[?; altered] in Bristoll, 
On my arrivall he y.e s'd MARTIN & I cancelling y.e Indenture, on w.ch the s'd 
MARTIN gave me A suit of Cloaths, in consideraçon of w.ch & his kindness to me 
that he might be y.e better gaine, 
I doe hereby ingage to serve Jo.s BRIDGER, 4 yeares from y.e 6.th day of Nov.r 
last past att y.e expiraçon of w.ch tyme, he y.e said BRIDGER is to allow me 
either by himselfe or by his Assignes accordeing to custome of y.e Country, 
and this doe engage freely to acknowledge in Open Co.rt 
witness my hand this 5.th Jan.ry 1670 [1670/1]
