Harris Zoobug64@aol.com ============================================================================ Isle of Wight Co., VA, Order Book 1772-1780, p. 192 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets, line breaks & surname capitalization mine] [p] 192 At a Court held for Isle of Wight County on Thursday the seventh day of October in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and seventy three ~ Present James BRIDGER James Allen BRIDGER and Nicholas PARKER, Benjamin ELEY Gent.s Justices ~ ----------------------------------------------- An Indenture of bargain and Sale between Thomas CAMP of the one part and Thomas COPHER Junior of the other part was fully proved by the Oath of Emanuel HUNTER the other Witness thereto and Ordered to be Recorded ~ ----------------------------------------------- Ordered that John Scarsbrook WILLS, Robert DRIVER, and Nicholas WAIL being first Sworn before a Magistrate of this County do seise the conveniency and inconveniency that will attend turning the Road that leads near Jonas SHIVERS's plantation and make Report thereof to the Court ~ ----------------------------------------------- Present Richard HARDY and Brewer GODWIN Gent. ~ ----------------------------------------------- The last Will and Testament of William RAIFORD was presented in Court by Rebecca RAIFORD the Executrix therein named who made Oath thereto according to law, and the same being proved by the Oaths of James Allen BRIDGER and William BRIDGER two of the Witnesses thereto and Ordered to be Recorded, and on the motion of the said Executrix, who together with William GAY Junior her Security, entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of one hundred pounds, with condition as the law directs, Certificate is granted her for obtaining a probat, thereof in due form and James BRIDGER and Lazarus WHITEHEAD the other Executors therein named personally in Court Refused to take upon themselves the burthen of the Execution or join in the probat thereof ----------------------------------------------- Ordered that Thomas NELMS, James JOHNSON, James Allen BRIDGER, and Joshua POWELL or any three or more of them being first Sworn before a Magistrate of this County do appraise in Current Money the Slaves (if any) and Personal Estate of William RAIFORD deceased and Return the appraisement to the Court, ----------------------------------------------- Upon the motion of John READ who made Oath according to law, and together with Brewer GODWIN and Jonathan GODWIN his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of one thousand pounds with condition as the law directs Certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of administration on all the Estate of John READ deceased unadministred by Lydia READ deceased the former administratrix in due form ~ ----------------------------------------------- Upon the motion of John READ who made Oath according to law, and together with Brewer GODWIN and Jonathan GODWIN his Securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of five hundred pounds with condition as the law directs Certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of administration, on the Estate of Lydia READ deceased in due form ~ ----------------------------------------------- Ordered that James WILLS, John SMELLY, Jonathan GODWIN, and Joseph FULLGHAM or any three or more of them being first Sworn before a Magistrate of this County do appraise in Current Money the Slaves and Personal Estate of ["Lydia READ"; cont'd on p. 193] [page break]
