Harris Zoobug64@aol.com ============================================================================ Isle of Wight Co., VA, Order Book 1772-1780, p. 314 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets & surname capitalization mine] [p] 314 [At a Court held for Isle of Wight Co., 1 Dec 1774] Appraisement to the Court ~ ----------------------------------------------- An Indenture of bargain and Sale between Benjamin BOON and Susanna his wife and Sarah BOON of the one part and Robert ELEY of the other part, Was acknowledged by the said Benjamin BOON and Susannah his wife and Sarah BOON parties thereto the said Susannah having been first privily examined as the law directs freely and voluntarily Relinquished her Right of Dower in the land conveyed by the said Indenture and Ordered to be Recorded ~ ----------------------------------------------- The last will and Testament of Isabel JOHNSON dec.d was presented in Court by Joseph DUCK the Executor therein named who made oath thereto according to law and the same being proved by the Oath of Sarah DUCK one of the Witnesses thereto and Ordered to be Recorded, And on the motion of the said Executor who together with Jesse WATKINS and Jethro GALE his Securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of two hundred and fifty pounds with condition as the law directs Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat thereof in due form ~ ----------------------------------------------- Absent James BRIDGER Gent. ~ ----------------------------------------------- Ordered that Henry JOHNSON, Michael JOHNSON, Lazarus JOHNSON, and Aaron JOHNSON or any three or more of them being first Sworn before a magistrate of this County do appraise in Current money the Slaves (if any) and personal estate of Isabel JOHNSON dec.d and make Return thereof to the Court ~ ----------------------------------------------- Ordered that John LAURANCE, Hardy LAURANCE, Joshua COUNCIL, Mills LAURANCE, Daniel HERRING and Benjamin ELEY or any four or more of them being first Sworn before a Magistrate of this County do view the Road leading over Benjamin BAKER's Mill Tail and make Report of the conveniency and Inconveniency that will attend building a Bridge over the said Mill Tail at the former place near the Mill house or the place where there is a Bridge lately built over the said Mill Tail ~ ----------------------------------------------- An account current of the estate of William ALLMOND dec.d being Returned is Ordered to be Recorded ~ ----------------------------------------------- It appearing to the Court that since the setting apart the Dower of Prudence HARVEY the widow of John WILLS Jun.r dec.d there is still Slaves wherein her dower was omitted to be set a part in, It is therefore Ordered that Brewer GODWIN, John Scarbrook WILLS, and John BUTLER do make a Redivision of the Estate of the said John WILLS Jun.r dec.d and set apart the Dower of the said Prudence HARVEY Widow and Relict of the said John WILLS Jun.r in the Slaves whereof the said John WILLS died seised & possessed and make Report thereof to the Court ~ ----------------------------------------------- James PYLAND Orphan of William PYLAND with approbation of the Court made choice of Jesse GLOVER for his Guardian who together with Thomas WRENN jun.r and Joseph ATKINSON his Securities entered into and Acknowledged their bond in the penalty of five hundred pounds for securing the said Orphans estate and Indemnifying the Court ~ ----------------------------------------------- [page break]
