The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Isle of Wight Co., VA, Order Book 1795-1797, p. 447 abstracted by Matt HARRIS [brackets & surname capitalization mine] [p] 447 [At a Court held for Isle of Wight Co., 5 Sep 1795] An Indenture of bargain and Sale with receipt thereon endorsed between Tristam NORSWORTHY Administrator &:c of Samuel WHITFIELD decd: and Fanny WHITFIELD Widow & relict of the said Samuel WHITFIELD decd: of the One part and Josiah WILLS of the Other part were proved by the Oaths of James YOUNG and Francis YOUNG two of the Witnesses thereto as to Tristam NORSWORTHY, and by the Oaths of Willis CORBELL, William PITTS, & Sally BIGLIN three of the Witnesses as to Fanny WHITFIELD the parties thereto and Continued further proof- = An Indenture of bargain and Sale between Patience INGLISH, Ruth INGLISH, Robert JOINER & Celia his wife, and Patience TURNER, of the One part, and Josiah RED, of the Other part, was fully proved by the Oaths of Mills ELEY and Robert ELEY two of the Witnesses thereto, and together with a Commission and Certificate thereof thereon endorsed of the Acknowledgement of Celia the wife of Robert JOINER are Ordered to be Recorded- = A Deed of Emancipation between Isaac HALL of the One part and a Negro man Dick of the Other part was Acknowledged by the said Isaac HALL party thereto and Ordered to be Recorded- = A Writing obligatory between Isaac HALL of the One part and Brewer GODWIN, John GOODRICH, Francis BOYKIN and Thomas KING, Gentlemen Justices of the Court of Isle of Wight County, was Acknowledged by the said Isaac HALL party thereto and Ordered to be Recorded- = An Indenture of Gift between Thomas UZZELL Senior and Mary his wife of the One part and Thomas UZZELL Junior of the Other part was Acknowledged by the said Thomas UZZELL Senior and Mary his wife parties thereto she having been first privily Examined as the Law directs freely and Voluntarily relinquishes her right of Dower to the land Conveyed by the said Indenture and Ordered to be Recorded = On the Mothin of Samuel JEFFERSON who made Oath thereto According to Law, and together with Thomas ADDISON and Joseph STRINGFIELD his Securities entered into and Acknowledged their bond in the penalty of One thousand Pounds with Condition as the Law directs Certificate is granted him for Obtaining letters of Administration on the Estate of Britain WOMBLE decd: in due form- = Ordered that Ishmael MOODY, Thomas WOMBLE, Joseph STRINGFIELD, and Jacob STRINGFIELD or any three of them being first sworn before a Justice of the Peace for the said County; Appraise in Current Money the Slaves (if any) and personal Estate of Britain WOMBLE decd: and return the Appraisement to the Court- = An Account Current of the Estate of John POPE decd: reported by the Persons appointed for that purpose and Ordered to be Recorded- = On the Motion of JOHN MURRAY who made Oath thereto According to Law, and together with Lewis CHAPMAN his security, entered into and Acknowledged their bond in the penalty of One thousand Pounds with Condition as the Law directs, Certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of Administration on the Estate of William CARROLL decd: in due form- = Ordered that William PATTERSON, James BRANTLEY, Lewis CHAPMAN, and Scott HOLLOWELL or any three of them being first sworn before a Justice of the peace for the said County appraise in Current money the Slaves (if any) and personal Estate of William CARROLL decd: and return the Appraisement to the Court = [page break]
