This deed made this 31st day of December, 1883, between James Owen and 
Susanna his wife, John Shepherd and Jane R. his wife, Wm. M. Shepherd 
and Mary E. Shepherd all of the State of Virginia of the first part 
and Nancy J. Corbell of the State of Va. of the other part. Witnesseth 
that in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars 
($250.00) the said parties of the first part do grant with general 
warranty unto the said Nancy J. Corbell and her heirs and assigns 
forever the following real estate, to-wit: that part of the tract of 
land of which William J. Shepherd died seized and possessed in the 
County of Isle of Wight, State of Virginia, the undersigned heirs of 
the said William J. Shepherd all being twenty one years old & having 
agreed to divisions as set forth in the deeds this day made by the 
undersigned interested parties to each other (other) and to the said 
Nancy J. Corbell bounded as follows: commencing at Chuckatuck Creek 
and running up the ___ to a chinkapin stake which is planted about 
twenty yards from the old dwelling house, thence in an easterly 
direction to a cherry tree, thence down the branch to the Creek, 
thence up the Creek to the beginning and supposed to be thirteen acres, 
and the said parties of the first part covenant that they have the 
right to convey the said lands to the grantee, and that she shall 
have quiet possession of the said land, and that they will execute 
such further assurances of the said land as may be requisite.
Witness the following signatures and seals this 31st day of 
December, 1883.

State of Virginia, Isle of Wight Co., to-wit:

I, Geo. M. Waddill, a Notary Public for the County of Isle of Wight 
and State of Va., do certify that James Owen and Susanna Owen his 
wife, John Shepherd and Jane R. his wife, William M. Shepherd and 
Mary E. Shepherd  whose names are signed to the above writing 
bearing date the 31st of Dec., 1883, personally appeared before me 
in my County aforesaid and acknowledged the same. And I further 
certify that Susanna Owen wife of James Owen and Jane R. Shepherd 
wife of John Shepherd was examined by me privily and apart from 
their husbands and having the writing fully explained to them they 
declared that they had willingly executed the same and does not 
wish to retract it.
Given under my hand this 31st day of Dec., 1883.

the 23rd day of January, 1884. This deed from James Owen & wife 
John Shepherd & wife, Wm. M. Shepherd and Mary E. Shepherd to 
Nancy J. Corbell was received and admitted to record on the 
annexed certificate of Geo. M. Waddill, Notary Public.
