SHEPHERD to James OWEN February 4, 1884 * * * * * * * * * Isle of Wight Co., VA, Deed Book 47 (1883-1884), page 504 This deed made this 31st day of December, 1883, between John Shepherd and Jane R. his wife, William M. Shepherd and Mary E. Shepherd, all of the state of Va. Of the first part, and James Owen of the State of Va. of the other part, Witness, that in consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) the said parties of the first part, do grant with general warranty unto the said James Owen and his heirs and assigns forever the following real estate, to-wit: That part of the tract of land of which Wm. J. Shepherd died seized and possessed,in the County of Isle of Wight and State of Va. The undersigned heirs of the said Wm. J. Shepherd all being twenty one years old and having agreed to divisions as set forth in deeds this day made by the undersigned interested parties, to each other bounded as follows, commencing at Chuckatuck Creek and running up the lane to a chinkapen stob which is planted about twenty yards from the old dwelling house, and thence a westerly direction to an elm tree, thence down the branch to the land of T. Q. Gilliam, thence down Chuckatuck Creek to the beginning, and supposed to be thirteen acres. And the said parties of the first part covenant that they have the right to convey the said lands to the grantee, and that he shall have quiet possession of the same, and that they will execute such further assurances of the said land as may be required. Shepherd the wife of John Shepherd was examined by me privily and apart from her husband, and had the writing fully explained to her when she declared that she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it.
