Deed Book 47, page 541

This deed made this 31st day of December, 1883, between John Shepherd and 
Jane R. his wife, James Owen & Susanna his wife and Wm. M. Shepherd, all 
of the State of Va. of the first part, and Mary E. Shepherd of the State of Va. 
of the other part. Witness, that in consideration of the sum of five hundred 
dollars ($500.00) the said parties of the first part do grant with general 
warranty unto the said Mary Shepherd and her heirs and assigns forever the 
following real estate, to-wit: that part of the tract of land of which Wm. J. 
Shepherd died seized and possessed in the County of Isle of Wight, Va., 
(the undersigned heirs of the said Wm. J. Shepherd, all being twenty one 
years old and having agreed to divisions as set forth in deeds this day made 
by the undersigned interested parties to each other) bounded as follows: 
commencing at the (walnut) tree at the back of the house and running a 
easterly direction along a branch to the land of Joseph Holliday, thence 
along the line of the said Holliday to a holly tree, thence a westerly 
direction to a red oak, thence a southerly direction back to the beginning, 
and supposed to be twenty seven acres.  And the said parties of the first 
part covenant that they have a right to convey the said lands to the grantee, 
and that she shall have quiet possession of the said land, and that they 
will execute such further assurances of the said land as may be requested.

State of Virginia, Isle of Wight Co., to-wit
I, Geo. M. Waddill a Notary Public for the County of Isle of Wight, State of 
Va., do certify that John Shepherd and Jane R. Shepherd his wife, James Own 
and Susanna Owen his wife and Wm. M. Shepherd whose names are signed 
to the writing above, bearing date the 31st day of December, 1883, personally 
appeared before me in my County aforesaid and acknowledged the same. 
And I further certify that I examined (that) said Jane R. Shepherd, wife of 
John Shepherd and Susanna Owen, wife of James Owen privily and apart 
from their husbands and explained the writing to them, and they declared 
that they had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it.
Given under my hand this 31st day of Dec., 1883.

day of February, 1884. This deed from John Shepherd & others to Mary 
E. Shepherd was admitted to record on the annexed certificate of G.  M. 
Waddill, a Notary Public.
