This deed made this 26th day of December in the year One Thousand Eight 
Hundred and Ninety Three between John Shepherd and Jane R. his wife 
of the County of Isle of Wight, State of Virginia of the first part, 
and, Robert L. Holliday, of said County and State of the second part.
Witnesseth:  That in consideration of the sum of One Thousand Dollars 
the said John Shepherd and Jane R. his wife do grant unto the said Robt. 
L. Holliday, with general warranty all that tract piece or parcel of 
land situated in Newport District, Isle of Wight County, State of 
Virginia and containing seventy (70) acres (more or less) and bounded 
and described as follows, bounded on the East by the land of Theodore 
Howard estate, on the South by the land of Henry Matthews, on the West 
by the land of Robt. G. Blackwell and Brewer's Creek, on the North by 
the land of said John Shepherd, it being a part or parcel of the land 
formaly known as the Nelson D. Hall land.  The said John Shepherd and 
Jane R. his wife covenant that they have the right to convey the said 
land to the grantee; that they had done no act to encumber the said 
land; that the grantee shall have quiet possession of the land free from 
all encumbrances, and that they the said parties of the first part will 
execute such further assurances of the said land as may be requisite.

County of Nansemond to wit:

I Lee Britt, a notary public for the County aforesaid in the State of 
Virginia do certify that John Shepherd and Jane R. Shepherd, his wife, 
whose names are signed to the writing hereto annexed, bearing date the 
26th day of December, 1893, have
acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid.

In the office of the Clerk of the County Court for the County of Isle 
of Wight the 4th day of January 1894, this deed was received and with 
the certificate annexed,  admitted to record.
