ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Rawleigh BARROTT [BARRETT] & wife Sally to John WHITFIELD, 28 Jan 1805 Deed of Bargain & Sale ----¤¤¤---- [p.] 7 [margin note] BARROTT &Ux.r to } Deed WHITFIELD This Indenture made this Twenty eighth day January One thousand eight hundred and five, Between Rawleigh BARROTT and Sally his wife of the County of Isle of wight of the one part, and John WHITFIELD of the Said County of the other part, Witnesseth that the Said Rawleigh BARROTT & Sally his wife, for and in consideration Sum of five hundred Dollars Current Money of this Commonwealth to him in hand paid by the Said John WHITFIELD, at or before the Sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the Said Rawleigh BARROTT and Sally his wife doth hereby Acknowledge, acquit, and discharge the Said John WHITFIELD his heirs & assigns, have granted, bargained and Sold and doth by these presents grant, bargain, and Sell unto the Said John WHITFIELD, a certain tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the County aforesaid, Containing by estimation Two hundred and Twenty five Acres, more or less, and bounded as follows Viz.t Begining at Black water at the mouth of a branch dividing branch between Matthias SPENCERs and Said tract of Land thence up Said branch to a gum a marked tree, thence a line of marked trees to a red oak, at the horse swamp, thence up Said Swamp to a pine Standing in the Side of the Smithfield road, thence along a line of marked trees between Ratcliff BOONs and tract of Land to a pine Standing in the bay pond, thence a line of marked trees between Joseph HOLMES and Said tract of Land to a branch between Said HOLMES & Said tract of Land, thence down Said branch to a gully Joining the old Seine hole dividing the Said HOLMES and Said tract of Land, thence down the run of Black water to the first Station_ and the Said Rawleigh BARROTT and Sally his wife doth for the Consideration Sum above mentioned, hath and doth by these presents granted bargained, Sold enfeoff and confirm unto the Said John WHITFIELD his heirs and Assigns the above mentioned land and premises with all its appurtenances, unto the only proper use and behoof of him the Said John WHITFIELD _ To have and to hold the aforesaid Land and premises with its appurtenances unto the Said John WHITFIELD, and the Said Rawleigh BARROTT and Sally his wife, doth warrant and by these presents forever defend the right and title of the Said Plantation, against themselves and against every other person or Persons Whatsoever, In Witness whereof we have hereunto Set our hands and affixed our Seals the day and date above mentioned - Witness Rawleigh BARROTT ¤Seal¤ Robert MERCER } her Lewis COGGIN } Sally + BARROTT ¤Seal¤ William BARROTT} mark -"- Rec.d Jan.y 28.th 1805 five hundred Dollars it being the full Consideration Sum within mentioned Teste Rawleigh BARROTT ¤Seal¤ Robert MERCER } her Lewis COGGIN } Sally + BARROTT ¤Seal¤ William BARROTT} mark -"- [page break] [p.] 8 At a Court held for Isle of wight County the 1.st day of April 1805 The foregoing Indenture & Receipt was Acknowledged by Rawleigh BARROTT and Sally his wife parties thereto; She having been first privily examined as the law directs, freely and Voluntarily relinquished her right to the land contained in the Said Indenture and ordered to be recorded - Teste Nath: YOUNG Cl O: Isle of Wight Co., VA, Deed Book 20 (1805-1808), pp. 7-8 Library of Virginia, Isle of Wight Co.
