ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - William OLDIS & wife Jane to William BLITH Jr. 10 Apr 1665 Assignment of Patent ----¤¤¤---- [p.] 43 [...] To all to whome these p'sents shall come I Francis MORRISON Esquire Gov.r & Cap.t Gen'all of Virginia send greeting in o.r Lord God everlasting, whereas by Instrucçons from the Kings most Excell.t Ma.tie directed to me & the Councill of State, his Ma.tie was gratiously pleased to Authorize me the said Govern.r & Councill to grant pattents, and to Assigne such proporçons of Land to all Adventurers, & Planters as have been usuall heretofore, in the like Cases either for Adventurers of money or transportaçon of People to this Collony, Accordeing to A Charter of Orders from y.e late Treasurer & Comp.a And that y.e same proporçon of Fifty Acres of Land granted & Assigned for every P/son transported hither since Midsumer 1625 And that y.e same Course be continued to all persons Adventurers & Planters untill it shall be otherwise determined by his Ma.tie Now know yee that I y.e said Francis MORRISON Esq.r Gov.r doe w,th y.e consent of y.e Councill of State, accordingly give & grant unto William OLDIS Three hundred & Tenne Acres of Land scituate lyeing & being in the Isle of Wight County on y.e West side of the Ciprus [Cypress Swamp] begining att A m'ked Redd Oak att y.e head of a hundred acres of Land of y.e said OLDIS from thence North by West four hundred & forty Pole to a m'ked White Oake between a Cart path & a small Pocoson, from thence South West by West 130 Poles to a marked Redd Oake from thence South by East 20 Poles to a m'ked Pine from thence West by South to a m'ked White OAke forty Six pole upon BODDY from thence South Westerly 140 Poles, along BODDY's Lyne, from thence East by North 72 Poles to a marked Pine from thence South by East 280 Poles to a m'ked great Pine by a Cart Path from thence North East by East 130 Poles, to y.e first station or marked Red Oak the said Land being due to him y.e said W.m OLDIS by & for y.e transportaçon of Seaven Persons into this Collony whose names are all in y.e Records mençoned in this Pattent, To have & to hould y.e sd Land w.th his due shares of all Mines & Mineralls w.th all Woods Waters & Rivers w.th all proffitts Comodities & Hereditam.ts whatsoever belonging to y.e said [page break] [p.] 44 Land to him the said William OLDIS his Heires and Assignes for ever, In as large & ample manner to all intents & purposes as is expressed in A Charter of Orders from y.e late Treasurer & Comp.a dated y.e 18.th of Nov.r 1618 Or by consequence may be Justly Collected out of y.e same or out of y.e Letters Pattents whereon they are grounded To be held of o.r Sovereigne L.d y.e King his Heires & Successo.rs for ever, as of his Mann.r of East=Greenwich in full [sic; 'free' is typical usage] & Comon Soccage and [redundant "full & Comon" struck through] & not in Capite or by Knights service Yeilding and payeing to o.r Sov'eigne Lord y.e King his Heires & Successo.rs for every Fifty Acres of Land hereby granted Yearly att y.e Feast of S.t Michaell y.e Archangell the Fee rent of One shilling, w.ch paym.t is to be made Seaven Yeares after y.e first Entry of the Survey, & rights in y.e Office being the 20.th of June now last past, & not before accordeing to y.e s'd Charter of Orders, and since confirmed by his Ma.ties Instrucçons, as alsoe by Act of of [sic] Assembly y.e 2.d of March 1642 [1642/3] Provided that if y.e said W.m OLDIS his Heires or Assignes doe not seat or Plant or cause to be Planted or seated upon y.e s'd Land w.th in three yeares next Ensueing, that then it shall be lawfull for any Adventurer or Planter, to make choice or seat thereupon Given att James Citty under my hand & y.e Seal of y.e Collony y.e 30.th of Octob.r 1662 and in y.e 14.th year of y.e Reigne of Sovereigne Lord King Charles y.e 2.d &c Francis MORRISON On y.e back of y.e Pattent Assigned thus Tho: LUDWELL Sec.rÿ I W.m OLDIS Assigne all my right & interest of this Patt.t, & also in y.e behalfe of my Wife Jane OLDIS, unto W.m BLITH his Heires & Assignes, as witness o.r hands y.e 1.st of May 1665 W.m OLDIS Jane OLDIS This Patt.t & assignem.t was Acknowledged & deliv'ed by M.r W.m OLDIS & Jane his Wife unto M.r Richard SHARPE for y.e use of W.m BLYTH's ["Blyths"] Heires in Open Co.rt May y.e 1.st 1665 held for y.e Isle of Wight County in these words, wee deliver and acknowledge this o.r Assignem.t to be o.r reall Act & Deed Teste Jn.o JENINGS Cler Cur Record 1° May 1665 [The patent above was not found in the Virginia Land Office Patent Books.] Isle of Wight Co., VA, Record of Deeds, Wills, Etc., Vol. 1 (1662-1715), pp. 43-44 The Library of Virginia, Isle of Wight Co.
