ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Jethro BUTLER to Eldridge RHAFORD [RAYFORD, RAIFORD] Deed of Gift, 17 Oct 1846 ----¤¤¤---- [p.] 467 [...] Know all men by these presents that I Jethro BUTLER of the County of Isle of Wight And State of Virginia, for and In Consideration of the Natural [erasure] love and good Will and affection which I have and bear for and towards my Son in law Eldridge RHAFORD living in the County of Isle of Wight And state of Virginia, have given and granted and by these presents doth give and grant unto my aforesaid Son in law his heirs and assigns forever the following property Viz. A Certain piece or parcel of land Situate lying And being in the County of Isle of wight And state aforesaid, lying on the South side of the Portsmouth and roanoke Rail road, Containing by estimation five Acres More or less, And bounded as follows, Commencing at a Sweet Gum standing in the run of a Small branch a corner tree On John R. CARSON and Benjamin ELEY, thence up Said branch a North course to a black gum, a side line on John R. CARSON thence an east Course a line of marked trees to a pine, a line of Eldridge RHAFORD formerly the BAKER land, thence Along Said RHAFORDs line a South Course to a Red oak a corner On Uriah RAWLS & Benjamin ELEY, thence along said ELEYs line, a west course to the first Station, to have and to hold the aforesaid given and granted real and personal estate unto my aforesaid Son in law free from the claim or Claims of the Jethro BUTLER [sic] And all persons Claiming by through or under Me will warrant and forever defend In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this 17th day of october [page break] [p.] 468 Eighteen hundred and ["fifty" struck through] forty Six.
