VA Isle of Wight Co., VA, Deed Book 21, pp. 344 4 Mar 1811 Mary Ann, wife of Samuel CORBETT, relinquishment of dower [continued from previous page] said Mary Ann Wife of the said Samuel CORBETT cannot conveniently travel to Our County Court, or to the General Court of the State of Virginia, to relinquish her right of dower in the said land, in said Indenture contained, and which is hereunto annexed: Therefore we do give unto you or any two or more of you, full power to receive her relinquishment of dower in the said land, if she shall be willing to make the same before you: And we do therefore command you or any two or more of you, that you do personally go to the said Mary Ann wife of the said Samuel CORBETT and receive her relinquishment of dower in the said land, & examine her privily and apart from her said husband, whether she doth the same freely and voluntary, without the persuasion or threats of her said husband: And whether she be willing the same shall be recorded in the Coutny Court of Isle of Wight or in the General Court of this state. And when you have gone to the said Mary Ann Wife to the said Samuel CORBETT & have received that you do personally go to the said Mary Ann wife of the said Samuel CORBETT and her relinquishment of dower in the said land, & have examined her as aforesaid, that you Certify the same under your hands and seals, & send then there the said Indenture, together with the Writ. - Witness Nathaniel YOUNG, Clerk of Our said County Court, at the Courthouse, the 4.th day of March 1811 in the 35th year of the Commonwealth. - Nathaniel YOUNG Pursuant to the within Commission to us directed we the undersigned have this day waited on Mary Ann CORBETT wife of Samuel CORBETT & have examined her privily & apart from her said husband & have received her relinquishment of right of dower in and to the lands Contained in the annexed indenture freely and voluntary without the threats or persuasions of her said husband & is willing the same should be recorded, Certified under our hands and Seals this 9th day of March 1811.- Thomas KING *Seal* Nathaniel WILLS *Seal* At a Court held for Isle of Wight County the 1st day of July 1811 the foregoing indenture and receipt together with the Commission & Certificate thereto annexed of the acknowledgement of Mary Ann CORBETT was acknowledged by the said Samuel CORBETT & ordered to be recorded- Teste.
