I Bequeath my Soul to God my Saviour and Merciful Redeemer and my Body I Bequeath to the Earth there to be decently Interred therein And for whatsoever Estate it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I Bequeath as followeth my Debts being first paid. Item I Give and bequeath unto my Kinsman Valentine CHITTEY [CHITTY] Fifty Acres of Land where now James NELSON liveth and One Cow with Calf and One Sow with Pigg to be delivered to him at the Expiration of his Time which is at Twenty One Years of Age and accordingly Corn & Cloths : all these things I give to my Cousin afores.d provided he serve me or my Assigns 'till he be One and Twenty Years of Age. I Give and Bequeath unto my Grand Child Edward GREENWOOD a Heifer with Calf. I Give and Bequeath unto my son Edward GREENWOOD one Shilling in English money whensoever he shall come or send to demand the same. I Give and Bequeath all the rest of my Estate unto my Loving Wife Elizabeth GREENWOOD, wether it be Land, Cattle, Hoggs Goods, Debts or whatsoever is or may be called mine, All to be wholly at her Disposing as her own proper Goods for ever. And further I do make her my loving Wife my full & whole Executrix to pay the aforesaid Legacies and all my Debts. [margin note] Preamble to the Deed of Conveyance Whereas Thomas GREENWOOD late of the County of Isle of Wight in Virginia Deced did by his last Will & Testament bearing Date the 19.th of March 1656 Give and Bequeath unto his loving Wife Elizabeth all his Estate after his Debts & Legacies were paid as Land Cattle or whatsoever else could be called his and all the same to be wholly at her disposing as by the said Will may more largely appear. ~ And Whereas the said Thomas GREENWOOD did in his Life Time take up or Purchase Three Hundred Acres of Land lying & being in the County aforesaid for which Land he had a Patent bearing date the 20.th day of February 1652 [1652/3; PB3:177] Which said Land, after the Decease of the said GREENWOOD was by M.r James PYLAND who Married Elizabeth the Relict & Executrix of the said GREENWOOD Pattented by him in his own Name bearing Date the 19.th day of February 1662 [1662/3; PB5:212] to which Land he had no Right neither was it ever with the Knowledge or Consent of his Wife that he should do the same. And whereas the said GREENWOOD did by his s.d Will [page break] [p.] 572 Give & Bequeath unto his Kinsman Valentine CHITTEY Fifty Acres of the said Three Hundred Acres which he hath had and sold since by him to John JENNINGS, [WD1:40] And since that the said Elizabeth & Thomas EDWARDS her now Husband hath sold unto the said JENNINGS one Hundred Acres more out of the said Three Hundred Acres of Land Pattented by the s.d GREENWOOD as aforesaid All which Land so Sold the said Thomas EDWARDS & Elizabeth his now Wife Confirm to be Good against Them their Heirs Executors Administrators Assigns or any other Person or Persons whatsoever laying Claim from by or under them to any Part so sold of the Land aforesaid to him the said John JENNINGS having rec'ed full Satisfaction from him for the same ~ Now know all Men by these P'sents that I the said Thomas EDWARDS & Elizabeth my now Wife formerly the Relict of the said GREENWOOD and M.r James PYLAND above mentioned for & in consideration of Nine Thousand five Hundred Pounds of good Sound Merchantable Tobacco & Cask already by us received from Jn.o JENNINGS and other Considerations Us thereunto moving have Bargained Sold Alienated from Us and our Heirs Executors & Administrators to the said John JENNINGS his Heirs Executors Administrators & Assigns for Ever one Hundred and Fifty Acres of Land (more or less) adjoining to that Hundred Acres of Land sold by us formerly to the said JENNINGS which being all the remaining part of the prementioned Three Hundred Acres Patented by the said GREENWOOD as aforesaid To have and to hold the said One Hundred & Fifty Acres of Land, be it more or less, whereon we now live to him the said John JENNINGS his Heirs & Assigns for Ever with all Priveledges Immunities & Emoluments as also all Edifices Orchards Gardens Houses Fences Woods Waters thereunto belonging with Genneral Warranty of Us and Our Heirs to the said JENNINGS his Heirs and Assigns for ever, And We do further Oblidge our Selves to deliver to the said JENNINGS all Deeds Evidences Patents or Papers concerning the said Land which are in our Possession and at the next Court to be held in the Isle of Wight County to acknowledge & Deliver to the said JENNINGS this our Deed that it may be Recorded In Confirmation of all the Premises We have hereunto set our Hands & Seals this 4.th day of March 1674 and in the 27.th Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord Charles y.e Second &c his Signed Sealed & Delivered Thomas TE EDWARDS.
