ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Benjamin and Sarah JOHNSON to Francis VAUGHAN, 4 Jun 1777 ----¤¤¤---- [margin note] JOHNSON to VAUGHAN This Indenture made this fourth Day of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Seven Between Benjamin JOHNSON and Sarah his wife of the Isle of Wight County of the one part and Francis VAUGHAN of the same County of the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty five pounds Current Money of Virginia to him the said Benjamin JOHNSON in hand paid the Receipt whereof he doth hereby ack.e [page break] [p.] 428 acknowledge and thereof acquit and discharge the said Francis VAUGHAN his Heirs Executors and Administrators they the said Benjamin JOHNSON and Sarah his wife Have and each of them hath granted, bargained, Sold, Aliened, released, and confirmed, and by these Presents do and each of them doth grant, bargain, Sell, Aliene, release, and confirm, unto the said Francis VAUGHAN his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns A Certain Tract or parcel of Land Scituate lying and being in the said County of Isle of Wight on the East side of black Water Containing One Hundred and eighty Six acres, and bounded as followeth Begining at the mouth of a branch called the Spring branch so up the run of the said branch near the Head of the Mirey to a line of marked trees, thence runing N. 87 Degrees W.s 38 Poles to a red Oak, thence South 75 Degrees W. 47 Ples [sic] to a Small red Oak thence S.W. 53 Poles to a poplar standing in a branch called the deep branch thence down the run of the said branch to the run of Currowook Swamp, thence up the run of the Swamp to Bowsnarros Swamp thence up the run of the said Swamp to the first Station; being part of a patten granted to William BUCK, bearing date the 7.th Day of June 1666 and called by the name Currowook which is now in the Possession of Benjamin JOHNSON and Sarah his Wife, and by an Inquisition remaining in the Secretary's Office of this Colony rotation being thereunto may be shed - may more fully and at large appear they the said Benjamin JOHNSON and Sarah his wife and each of them hath granted, bargained, and Sold, and confirmed, and by these Presents, do and each of them doth grant, bargain, Sell, unto the said Francis VAUGHAN his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns forever all that [page break] [p.] 429 Plantation and Peice or parcel of Land and Premises the reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders To have and hold. the aforesaid Lands and Tenements with the Appurtenances unto the said Francis VAUGHAN and his Heirs forever to the only use and behoof him the said Francis VAUGHAN and his Heirs forever. and the said Benjamin JOHNSON and Sarah his wife: and their heirs. all and every other Person or Persons whatsoever. having or laying any lawful claim. any Estate or Interest of in or to the said Land and premises hereby bargained and sold or any part thereof. by, from or under him, her, or any of their heirs. shall and will from time to time. and at all times. from hence hereafter at the Reasonable Request of the sai.d said [sic] Francis VAUGHAN and his Heirs and Assigns make and Execute ["to be executed" inserted] all such further and other such Act and Acts. devises Conveyances and ~ Assurances in the Law whatsoever for the Law their better and more perfect and absolute Conveying and Assureing the said Land and Premises unto the said Francis VAUGHAN his Heirs and Assigns forever and also he the said Benjamin JOHNSON the above granted premises and every part and parcel thereof unto the said Francis VAUGHAN his Heirs and Assigns against the lawful claim title deed ['or] demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall and will Warrant and forever defend by these presents In Witness whereof the parties to these Presents have hereunto Interchangeably Set their hands and Affixed their Seals the day and year above Written his Benjamin B JOHNSON (LS) Mark her Sarah ^ JOHNSON (LS) Mark Sealed and delivered} In presence of......} John LAWRENCE } Mary + CAWL } Mary LAWRENCE } [page break] [p.] (430) Received 4.th June 1777. of Francis VAUGHAN Fifty five Pounds Current Money, it being the consideration of the within mentioned to be by him paid to ~ his Benjamin B JOHNSON Mark At a Court held for Isle of Wight County the 5.th Day of June 1777~ This Indenture and ["the Receipt thereon Endorsed" inserted] was Acknowledged by Benjamin JOHNSON and Sarah his wife Parties thereto she having been first privily Examined as the Law directs. freely and Voluntarily Relinquished her Right of Dower to the Lands Conveyed by the said Indenture and Ordered to be Recorded ~ Teste Nath.l BURWELL Cl.
