This Indenture made and entered into this 14th day of August in the Year of 
our lord One thousand Eight hundred and sixteen between Lemuel LOWE of the 
County of Isle of Wight and State of Virginia of the one part and John 
WHITFIELD of the County and State aforesaid of the other part 
Witnesseth that the said Lemuel LOWE for and in consideration of ['the'] sum 
of fifteen dollars by the said John WHITFIELD to him in hand paid at or before 
the ensealing or delivery of these presents: the receipt

whereof is hereby acknowledged; and the said John WHITFIELD his heirs and 
assigns and by this Indenture acquitted and discharged  have [sic] bargained 
and Sold and doth by these presents grant bargain alien, sell and convey unto 
the said John WHITFIELD and his heirs forever a certain tract or parcel of 
land, lying and being in the county aforesaid Containing by estimation Ten 
acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows. Viz.t 
begining at a pine stump, a corner between William MOUNTFORTT, Peter BRANCH 
and said tract of land 
thence a line of Marked trees to the horse swamp 
thence down the various courses of said swamp to a red oak a corner between 
Cap.t John LAWRENCE and the said land 
thence a straight course to the road leading from black water bridge to 
Smithfield, 
thence down said road to the begining 
To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all and singular its 
appurtenances to and for the only proper use and behoof of him the said John 
WHITFIELD, his heirs and assigns forever, 
and the said Lemuel LOWE doth by these presents for himself his heirs 
executors Administrators &c. warrant and forever defend the right and title of 
said Land with the appurtenances thereto belonging to the said John WHITFIELD, 
his heirs Executors Administrators &c. 
In witness whereof the said Lemuel LOWE doth hereto Set his hand and Affixed 
his Seal the day and date above written
