Harris Zoobug64@aol.com ============================================================================ Isle of Wight Co., VA, Deeds abstracted by Matt HARRIS [surname capitalization, line breaks, & brackets mine] Isle of Wight Co., VA, Deed Book 23, pp. 203-04 7 Mar 1816 Lemuel LOWE to John WHITFIELD Deed of Bargain & Sale [margin notes] LOWE to WHITFIELD } deed This Indenture made and entered into this seventh day of March in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and sixteen between Lemuel LOWE of the one part and John WHITFIELD of the other part all of the County of Isle of Wight and State of Virginia Witnesseth that the said Lemuel LOWE for and in consideration of the sum of Forty dollars and Seven Cents to him in hand paid by the said John WHITFIELD at or before the ensealing or delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby by the said Lemuel LOWE Acknowledged, Have [sic] and bargained and Sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and Sell unto the said John WHITFIELD and his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of Land, lying and being in the County and State aforesaid Containing by estimation Sixty Acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows, to wit; begining at a birch a corner tree between William MONTFORT and Said tract of land, standing by the side of black water run Thence down the various courses of Said black water run to the mouth ['of'] a branch the dividing line between said tract of land and the tract of land that Cap.t John LAWRENCE purchased of Matthew SPENCER, thence up the various courses of said branch to a gum a corner tree between said LAWRENCE, said William MOUNTFORTT, and Said tract of Land thence along a line of marked trees to the begining.
