VA Isle of Wight Co., VA, Deed Book 27 (1825-28), pp. 17-18 19 Jan 1825 Lemuel & Lucy LOWE to Joseph & Thomas MOUNTFORD This Indenture made the 19th day of January in the year Eighteen hundred and twenty five between Lemuel LOWE & Lucy his wife of the county of Isle of Wight of the first part and Joseph MOUNTFORD & Thomas MOUNTFORD of said county of Isle of Wight of the second part and all of the state of Virginia, Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which we bear towards the said Joseph MONTFORD and Thomas MONTFORD of said county of Isle of Wight &c. as well as for the further consideration of one dollar to us in hand paid by the said Joseph and Thomas MONTFORD, at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged- Have given and granted after each of our deaths and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Joseph and Thomas MONTFORD, their heirs Executors administrators and assigns upon those conditions that the said Lemuel LOWE and Lucy my [page break] wife is to remain in peaceable and quiet possession of the tract of land as will be hereafter particularly described their lifetimes and at each of their deaths then the said Joseph and Thomas MONTFORD are to take possession of the tract of land, bounded as follows by the lands of Willis ELEY orphan of John ELEY decd: John B ELEY thence cornering at the line of Robert ELEY's heirs thence along the said heirs line to Exum ELEY's line Alen GAYs line thence along the said line to Ezekiah RICHARD's line thence along the said line to Hartwell ELEY's line a corner tree thence along said line to Willis ELEYs line the begining with reference to a deed from Zebulon ELEY to said Lemuel LOWE and containing two hundred and ninety two acres be the same more or less which the said Joseph & Thomas MONTFORDs is to have and to hold after the death of Lemuel LOWE and Lucy his wife with all woods, underwoods, waters and watercourses, houses and chattles and all appertenances thereunto belonging unto the said Joseph & Thomas MONTFORD- To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land equally between them the said Joseph & Thomas MONTFORDs their heirs Executors, administrators, and assigns the claime or claims of all and every Person or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents- In Witness whereof the said Lemuel LOWE and Lucy his wife have hereunto set their hands this day & year first above written Lemuel LOWE *Seal* X his mark Lucy LOWE *Seal* X her mark Signed Sealed & delivered} In the presence of------} Jacob H. DUCK Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid do hereby certify that Lemuel LOWE a party to the within Deed bearing date on the 19th day of January 1825 Personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid & acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the clerk of said county of Isle of Wight in order that the said deed may be recorded: Given under our hands this 25th day of January 1825-, Jacob H DUCK P William H BALLARD P Isle of Wight County (Court) We Jacob H DUCK and William H BALLARD Justices of the peace in the county aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Lucy LOWE the wife of Lemuel LOWE parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 19th day of January 1825, and hereto annexed Personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and being Examined by us privily and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully Explained to her she the said Lucy LOWE acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared that she had willing signed sealed and delivered the same, and that she wished not to retract it.
