William Mayo Land Patent, 1691 - Isle of Wight Co. VA Mayo, William - patent 20 Oct 1691 - IoW VA - 170 Ac. To all &c whereas &c now know ye that I the said Francis Nicholson Esq Lt. Governer &c give and grant unto Wm Mayo one hundred and seventy acres of land Lying in the Isle of Wight County beginning at a Hickory John Knight corner tree and running along the said Knights Line of markt trees south twenty degrees west two hundred pole to a pine, thence north seventy six degrees west nineteen pole to a dead pine Gyles Lymscotts corner tree in John Lawrences line, thence north nine degrees and a halfe west one hundred sixty and six pole to a small white oake by a branch, ye said Lawrences corner tree then eleven degrees east one hundred ninety and seven pole to a white oake - of ye main blackwater upon the bank ^ being another corner tree of the sd Lawrence, then along the sd black water north seventy three degrees east fifty four pole to a white oake Col Bridgers corner tree thence south six ~ degrees and a halfe east one hundred eighty and nine pole to ye place of beginning. A William Mayo is listed in the 1704 Quit Rents of IW county, owning 300 acres. William Mayo died in 1715 in IoW and was married to Isabelle Council. Seven children were mentioned in his will: William, James, John, Peter, Mary (m. Geo. Murrell), Margaret, and Patience (m. John Beal).
