Deed of Bargain & Sale

This Indenture made and entered into this [redundant "this" struck out] Twenty 
fifth day of August  In the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hhundred and 
Twelve, between William MOUNTFORTT and Dorey MOUNTFORTT his Wife of the County 
of Isle of wight and State of Virginia of the One Part and Shadrach GRIFFIN of 
the County and State aforesaid of the Other Part 
(Witnesseth) that the Said William MOUNTFORTT and Dorey his Wife for and in 
Consideration ['of the'] Sum of Ten Dollars lawful Money of Virginia to them 
in hand paid by the said Shadrach GRIFFIN at or before the Ensealing and 
delivery of these presents the receipt Whereof is hereby acknowledged, & the 
said GRIFFIN his Heirs &c. are acquitted, have bargained & Sold and doth by 
these Presents Grant bargain & Sell unto the Said Shadrach GRIFFIN & his Heirs 
forever a Certain Parcel of Land lying and being in the aforesaid State & 
County Containing by estimation Eight Acres and Bounded as follows (to wit) 
Begining at a Red Oak Standing by the Side of the Road leading from Black 
Water Bridge to Smithfield thence a line of Marked Trees To the Horse Swamp 
thence up said Swamp to a White Oak a Corner Tree between Said Piece of Land & 
Peter BRANCH then a line of Marked Trees to said Road thence up Said Road to 
the Begining, 
With the Reversion & Reversions, Remainder and Remainders, ['Rents'?] Issues 
and profits to the Only Proper Use & behoof of him the said Shadrach GRIFFIN & 
his Heirs forever. 
said tract, or parcel of land belonging or in any wise appertaining Right 
title interest use trust Claim or demand whatsoever of them the ['said'] 
William MOUNTFORTT and Wade MOUNTFORTT of, in and to the same and every part 
thereof. 
To Have and to hold the Said Piece of Land with its appurtenances Unto the 
said Shadrach GRIFFIN & his Heirs forever, and the Said William MOUNTFORTT 
doth to Warrant & by these Presents forever defend the right and Title of Said 
Land Unto the said Shadrach GRIFFIN & his Heirs forever; 
In Witness Whereof the Said William MOUNTFORTT & Dorey doth hereunto set their 
Hands & Affix their Seals the day & Date above Mentioned
