VA Isle of Wight Co., VA, Deed Book 31, pp. 83-84 11 Jan 1832 Joseph MOUNTFORD & wife Patsey to Thomas MOUNTFORD [margin notes] MONTFORT to MONTFORT} Deed & Certf: Examined This Indenture Made and entered into this 11th day of January in the year of Christ 1832, between Joseph MONTFORD & Patsey his wife of the county of Isle of Wight and State of Virginia of the one part and Thomas MONTFORT of the county and State aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Joseph MONTFORD and Patsey his doth for and in consideration of the sum _ _ _ _ of two hundred dollars lawful money of the State aforesaid to them in hand paid by the said Thomas MONTFORD the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained, & sold & by these presents doth grant bargain, sell release ratify and confirm unto the said Thomas MONTFORD his heirs and assigns forever, one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the state and County aforesaid, containing by estimation one hundred and twenty eight & a half acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows, to wit, begining at a spanish oak adjoining Willis ELEY thence an Eastward course along a new line of marked trees to a small pine adjoining Elisha GAY a new corner tree new made thence along said GAYs line & William JOHNSONs to a lightwood Stump a corner adjoining Josiah P. GAY thence along William T. BEATONs line to Willis ELEY's line to a spanish oak the begining & first station, it being one half the land which Zebulon ELEY sold to said Thomas & Joseph MONTFORD reserving in the deed the life of Lemuel LOWE & Lucy his wife.- To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land together with all and singular its appurtenances unto the said land belonging or in any wise appertaining unto said Thomas MONTFORD his heirs and assigns forever, and we the said Joseph MONTFORD & Patsey his wife doth further promise covenant & agree with the said Thomas MONTFORD & his heirs forever, that the said land and every part thereof is clear and free from all other gifts grants, sales, dowers, use, Wills, Judgements & executions and from all manner of incumberance whatsoever & we are lawfully possessed of the same & by the bargained above mentioned, we will warrant and forever defend the sale thereof unto the said Thomas MONTFORT as witness our hands and seals the day and date first herein written.- Joseph X MONTFORT *seal* Patsey X MONTFORT *seal* Signed sealed & ackn.d} in presence of us } William H.
