VA Isle of Wight Co., VA, Deed Book 21, pp. 347-48 4 Jun 1811 John WHITFIELD to William MOUNTFORTT [margin note] WHITFIELD & ex.rs to MOUNTFORTT } deed This Indenture made and entered into the fourth day of June One thousand eight hundred and eleven between John WHITFIELD and Lucy his Wife of the County of Isle of Wight & State of Virginia of the one part and William MOUNTFORTT of the County & State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said John WHITFIELD and Lucy his Wife for & in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to them in hand paid by the said William MOUNTFORTT the receipt whereof the said John WHITFIELD and Lucy his Wife doth acknowledge acquit and discharge the said William MOUNTFORTT his heirs exors: admr.s &.c have bargained and sold, and doth by these presents, grant, bargain and sell, unto the said William MOUNTFORTT and his heirs forever, a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County & State aforesaid, Containing by estimation two hundred and twenty five acres be the same more or less, & bounded as follows (to Wit) beginning at the mouth of a branch at the run of Black water a dividing line between the land of Matthias SPENCER and said Land, thence up said branch to a Gum a corner tree between said SPENCER and said tract of land, thence along a line of marked trees dividing the land of said SPENCER & said tract to the Horse Swamp, thence up said Swamp to a White Oak a corner tree between the land of Peter BRANCH a (F. Negro) & said tract of land, thence along a line of marked trees between said Branch and said tract to a pine a corner tree between the lands of Matthew POPE and the tract formerly belonging to Joseph HOLMES decd & said tract of land, thence along a line of marked trees dividing the said HOLMES' land & said tract to a branch thence down said Branch to Black Water run at Barrets Seign hole, thence down the said Black Water run to the first station- With the reversion, & reversions, remainder, and remainders, rents, issues and profits of said tract or parcel of land, to the only proper use and behoof of him the said William MOUNTFORTT and his heirs forever, free from the claim or demands of us the said John WHITFIELD & Lucy his Wife, or from our heirs exor.s adm.rs or assigns, & we the said John WHITFIELD and Lucy his Wife doth by these presents warrant & forever defend the right and title of said land & tenements to the said William MOUNTFORTT & his heirs or assigns forever, from us the said Jn.o WHITFIELD and Lucy his Wife or from any other person or persons, claiming the said land and tenements or any part or parcel thereof, In Witness whereof we the said John and Lucy WHITFIELD doth hereunto set our hands & affix our Seals the day & date above mentioned- John WHITFIELD *Seal* Lucy WHITFIELD *Seal* Signd Sealed & del.d } in presence of } David DICK (as to his ackm.t) Ro: TYNES } Henry WRIGHT } [page break] Rec.d June 4th 1811 of William MOUNTFORTT five hundred dollars it being in full for the within mentioned money.- John WHITFIELD Lucy WHITFIELD D.
