To all to whome these p'sents shall come, I Henry CHICHLEY K.t Dep.ty Gov'n.r, 
& L.t Gen'all of Virginia send greeting, 
whereas his most Sacred Ma.tie hath been gratiously pleased by his Royall 
Letters Pattents under the great seal of England, bearing date att Westm.r 
the 10.th day of Octob.r in the Eight & Twentieth year of his Reigne, among 
other things in y.e s'd L'res Pattents conteined, to continue & confirme y.e 
antient Priveledges & power of granting fifty Acres of Land, for every P/son 
imported into this his Ma.ties Collony of Virginia 
Now know Yee therefore y.t I y.e s'd S.r Henry CHICHLEY Dep.ty Govern.r &c doe 
w.th the advice & consent of the Councill of State accordeingly, Give & grant 
unto George PEIRCE four hundred Acres of Land scituate on y.e Branches of the 
Blackwater, in y.e Isle of Wight County (bounded Vizt) 
begining att a Redd Oak in M.r ACHLEY's ["Achleys"; ASHLEY] Lyne, the last 
Corner Tree of Phillip RAYFORD's ["Rayfords"] Land 
thence N.E: 214 P.o to a pine in a pocoson, 
then N:W: 300 pole to a pine in the s'd PIERCE's owne Line by a former survey, 
Thence S:W: 214 p.o to A redd Oak Phillip WRAYFORD's ["Wrayfords"] Corner 
Tree, 
then by WRAYFORD's ["Wrayfords"] Line S:E: 300 p.o to y.e first Station 
the s'd Land being due to y.e s'd PEIRCE by & for y.e transportaçon of Eight 
P/sons into this Collony, whose names are in y.e Records mençoned underneath 
this Pattent, 
To have & to hold y.e s'd Land w.th his due shares of all Mines & mineralls 
therein conteyned w.th all right & p'viledge of hunting hawkeing fishing & 
Fowling, w.th all woods, Waters, & Rivers w.th all proffitts Comodities & 
hereditaments_

Whatsoever, to y.e s'd Land belonging or in any wise apperteining to him y.e 
s'd George PEIRCE his heires or As's for ever, in as large & ample manner to 
all intents & purposes as hath been used & allowed since y.e first Plantaçon, 
to be held of o.r Sovereigne L.d y.e King his heires & Successors, as of his 
Mannor of East Greenwich, in fee [sic] & comon Soccage & not in Capite nor by 
Knight Service, 
Yeilding & payeing to o.r s'd Sovereigne L.d y.e King his heirs & Successo.rs 
for every fifty Acres of Land, hereby granted att y.e Feast day of S.t 
Michaell y.e Archangell, the Fee rent of one shilling, w.ch paym.t is to be 
made yearly from year to year, accordeing to his Ma.ties instrucçons of y.e 
12.th of Sept.r 1662 
Provided y.t if y.e s'd PEIRCE his heires or As's doe not seat or plant, or 
cause to be seated or planted upon y.e s'd Land w.th in three yeares next 
ensueing that then it shall & may be lawfull for any Adventurer or Planter to 
make choice & seat thereon, 
Given under my hand & the Seal of this Collony y.e 23.d of Aprill 1681_
