Isle of Wight Deed Book 4, p. 394 17 Dec 1734 William Pope to Thomas English 
 To all Christian People to whom these Presents shall come I William Pope of 
the Nottaway Parish of the Isle of Wight County send Greeting in the name of 
our Lord God everlasting Now Know Ye that I the said William Pope for divers 
good Causes & Considerations for a valuable Sum laid down in Hand: Do Give 
Grant Demise and fully and absolutely Lett and Let over unto Thomas English 
and his Heirs forever One Part or Parcel of Land containing by estimation One 
hundred Acres be it more or less lying & being on the sweat House Swamp in the 
said County of Isle of Wight on the South side Nottaway River being part of a 
Patent granted by our Honourable Governor Commander in Cheif William GoochH 
the Twenty eight day of September one Thousand seven Hundred & Thirty two in 
the sixth Year of our Reign beginning at a black Oak a corner Tree made in the 
old Line so along  a line of marked trees to a Pine a corner then along a Line 
of marked Trees to a Poplar corner Tree standing against the mouth of the Wolf 
Pit Branch so up the said Branch to the Old Line so along the Old Line to a 
black Oak corner Tree then along the Old Line to a white Oak corner Tree then 
along the Old Line to the beginning black Oak corner Tree for One Hundred 
Acres by estimation more or less where now Thomas English lives Hereby I 
oblige my Self to acknowledge the same in the County Court to be held for the 
Isle of Wight County when thereto required with my Hand & Seal December the 
seventeenth Day, One Thousand seventeen Hundred Thirty & four:
