This Indenture made this first day of January in the year of Christ one thousand eight hundred and five Between Henry JOYNER and Elizabeth his wife of the County of Isle of wight and state of Virginia of the one part, and William UZZELL of the same County and State aforementioned of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Henry JOYNER & Elizabeth his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds Current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said William UZZELL at or before the sealing & delivery of this presents the receipt whereof the said Henry JOYNER and Elizabeth his wife doth hereby Acknowledge, and therefore acquit and discharge the said William UZZELL his heirs executors and Administrators and by these presents hath granted; bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said William UZZELL one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County aforesaid, and bounded as follows to wit, Begining in the Mill swamp adjoining the land of Lemuel LIGHTFOOTs and George PURDEE Sen.r and on the Cypress mill swamp and adjoining the station, which said land was purchased by Jessy M.COY from Henry PITT by a certain Indenture of bargain & sale which was recorded in the County court of Isle of wight aforesaid, the second day of February one thousand seven hundred and seventy five reference thereto will more fully appear and the said land was devised by the said Jesse M.COY in his last will and testament to his Daughter Elizabeth MCOY, the wife of the said Henry JOYNER, and Containing by estimation, one hundred Acres to be the same more or less, To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and premises with the Appurtenances thereto belonging unto the said William UZZELL his heirs & Assigns forever, to the only proper use and behoof of him the said William UZZELL his heirs executors and forever [sic], and the said Henry JOYNER & Elizabeth his wife & their heirs the said tract of [sic] parcell of land and premises with their Appurtenances, against all and every person or persons Claiming the same, unto the said William UZZELL his heirs & Assigns forever. The tract had been conveyed from Henry PITT (Jr) to his brother Joseph, then passing to Joseph's eldest son Henry, who, with his wife Julianny, conveyed the land to Jesse (Jessy) MCCOY (MACCOY, MCOY). Jesse MCCOY left will 22 Apr 1783, proved 1 May 1783 (WB9:166-67).
