ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Nancy UZZELL to Josiah MERCER, 9 Dec 1818 Deed of Bargain & Sale ----¤¤¤---- [p.] 110 [...] This Indenture made and entered into this Ninth day of December eighteen hundred and eighteen Between Nancy UZZELL of the County of Isle of wight and State of Virginia of the one part and Josiah MERCER of the said county and state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Nancy UZZELL for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars current money of Virginia to her by the said Josiah MERCER in hand paid; the receipt whereof the said Nancy UZZELL doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained sold and conveyed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell & convey unto the said Josiah MERCER his heirs and assigns one certain tract or Parcel of land containing by estimation twenty acres be the Same more or less lying and being in the county aforesaid being part of that tract of land whereon the said Nancy UZZELL now lives and which was devised to her by her husband John UZZELL in his last will and Testament (Mar-Apr 1815; WB13:467-68) and bounded as follows Beginning in a branch which divides the lands of the said Nancy UZZELL and Josiah MERCER thence up a small branch in an old field to a white oak at the head of said branch thence along a line of marked trees through the old field to Elisha WHITLEYs path thence along said to a corner pine to MERCERs line thence along MERCERs line to the begining To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with the appurtenances thereunto belonging _ unto him the said Josiah MERCER his heirs and assigns, to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Josiah MERCER his heirs and assigns forever. and the said Nancy UZZELL for herself her heirs executors and Administrators doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said Josiah MERCER his heirs and assigns that she the said Nancy UZZELL and her heirs the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances unto him the said Josiah MERCER his heirs and assigns and against all Persons whatsoever shall and will by these presents [page break] [p.] 111 forever to warrant and defend In Witness whereof the said Nancy UZZELL hath hereunto set her hand and affixed her seal the day and year above written Signed Sealed and delivered} In Presence of } Nancy UZZELL ¤Seal¤ B.W.
