ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Francis and Zelpha VAUGHAN to Robert WESTER [WESTRAY], 20 Dec 1779 ----¤¤¤---- [margin note] VAUGHAN to WESTRAY } This Indenture made this Twentyeth Day of December one thousand seven hundred and Seventy Nine Between Francis VAUGHAN & Zelpha his wife of Isle of wight County of the one part and Robert WESTER of the same County of the other part Witnesseth that for and in Consideration [page break] [p.] 172 of the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds Current money of Virginia to him the said Francis VAUGHAN in hand paid the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and there of Acquit and discharge the said Robert WESTER his heirs Executors and Administrators they the said Francis VAUGHAN and Zelpha his wife have and each of them hath granted Bargained sold aliened Released and Confirmed and by these presents do and each of them Doth grant Bargain sell alien Release and Confirm unto the said Robert WESTER his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns a certain Tract or parcel of Land Situate lying and Being in the said County of Isle of wight on the East side of Blackwater Containing one hundred and Eighty Six Acres more or Less and Bounded as followeth Begining at the mouth of a Branch Called the spring Branch so up the Run of the said Branch near the head of the mire Branch to a line of Marked Trees thence Runing N 87 Degrees W 38 poles to a Red Oak thence S 75 Degrees W 47 poles [sic] to a small Red Oak thence SW 53 poles to a Poplar Standing in a Branch Called the Deep Branch thence Down the Run of the said Branch to the run of Currewook Swamp thence up the Run of the said swamp to Bowsnerros Swamp thence up the Run of the said swamp to the first Station Being part of a patent granted to Willim [sic] BUCK Bearing Date the 7th Day of June 1666 and Called by the Name of Currewook which is now in the Possession of Francis VAUGHAN and Zelpha his Wife and by an Inquisition Remaining in the Secretarys office of this Colony Rotation being thereunto may be Shed may more fully and at Large appear they the said Francis VAUGHAN and Zelpha his wife and Each of them hath granted Bargained and sold and Confirmed [page break] [p.] 173 and by these presents Do and Each of them doth grant Bargain sell unto the said Robert WESTER his heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever all that plantation and peace or parcel of Land and Premises the Reversion & Reversions Remainder and Remainders To have and to hold the afore said Lands and Tenements with the Appurtenances unto the said Robert WESTER and his heirs for Ever to the only use and behoof him the said Robert WESTER and his Heirs for Ever and the said Francis VAUGHAN and Zelpha his wife and their heirs all and every other person or persons whatsoever having or Laying any Lawfull Claim any Estate or Iterest [sic] of in or to the said Land and premises hereby Bargained and sold or any part there of by from or under him her or any of there heirs shall & will from time to time and at all times from hence hearafter at the Reasonable Request of the said Robert WESTER or his heirs and Assigns make & execute to be executed all such further & other such act & acts devise Conveyances and Assurances in the law what so ever for the law there better and more perfect & absolute conveying and Assureing the said Land and premises unto the s.d Robert WESTER his heirs and Assigns against the Lawful clame title & Demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever Defend by these presents In Witness whereof the parties to these presents have hereunto interchangeably set our hands and affixed our seals the day and year above Written [page break] [p.] 174 his Francis X VAUGHAN (LS) mark her Zelpha X VAUGHAN (LS) mark Sealed and Delivered} In presence of......} John LAWRENCE } Jesse LANKFORD } his Thomas + ENGLISH} mark Received December 20th 1779 of Rob.t WESTER two hundred and fifty Pounds Current Money it Being the Consideration of the within Mentioned premises By me his Francis X VAUGHAN mark At a Court held for Isle of wight County the 4.th Day of March 1780 This Indenture was proved by the Oaths of Jesse LANKFORD and Thomas ENGLISH two of the Witnesses thereto and at a Court held for the said County the first day of June the next following Francis VAUGHAN and Zelpha his wife partys there to she having Been first privily Examined as the Law directs freely and Voluntarily Relinquished her Right of Dower to the Lands Conveyed by the said Indenture & ordered to be Recorded Test Francis YOUNG DCl.
