ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Thomas Wrenn to Josiah Wilson, Sale of Slaves, 10 Oct 1798 ----¤¤¤---- Isle of Wight Co. VA Wills & Deeds, etc. Bk. 10, pgs 15-16 FHLC #32025 This Indenture made the tenth day of October in the year of our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred and Ninety Eight Between Thomas Wrenn of Isle of Wight County, in the State of Virginia of the one part, & Josiah Wilson of Surry County in the said Sate of Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said Thomas Wrenn, in order to Secure the payment of the following debts (to wit) two notes of hand bearing date the tenth day of October 1798,. One of which notes is on demand the first day of November next for three hundred and twenty three dollars, the other note is for one hundred & Sixty Seven Dollars, and is on demand first day of Jany. in the year one thousand seven hundred & Ninety Nine. And in Consideration of the Sum of one Dollar to him in hand paid by the said Josiah Wilson at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt where of is hereby Acknowledged, he the said Thomas Wrenn hath granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents doth grant bargain, & Sell unto the said Josiah Wilson, Nine Negro Slaves (to wit) Edmund, Celia, Judy, Peyton, Jesse, Moses, Cyrus, Nisey? and Jordan, with them & the profits thereof: & also all the estate, right, title, Interest, property, claim and demand whatsoever, both at Law and equity, of him the said Thomas Wrenn in to or out of the said Nine Negroes, Slaves, To have and to hold the aforesaid Nine Negroes, Slaves, Edmund, Celia, Judy, Peyton, Jesse, Mosses, Cyrus Nisey?, & Jordan, herein before mentioned to be hereby granted, with them & every of their increase unto the said Josiah Wilson, his heirs, executors, Adminors. & Assigns for ever, upon trust nevertheless that the said Josiah Wilson shall as soon as conveniently he can (after having advertised the time & place of the Sale of the property before mentioned in some public Newspaper published nearest to the residence of the said Thomas Wrenn) proceed to sell the same to the highest bidder for the best price that can be obtained, & out of the monies arising from the Sale in the first place to pay & Satisfy all reasonable charges attending such sale, & then the debts aforementioned, & the residue of the Monies arising from such Sale as aforesaid to the use of the said Thomas Wrenn, his Executors Administrators, or Assigns or to such person or persons, as he by writing under his hand shall appoint, & in default of such appointment to such person or persons as would be thereto entitled by virtue of the statute for distribulation of intestate's estates.
