ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA - DEEDS - Josiah and Ann Wrenn to James Simpson, 22 Feb 1814 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- The Commonwealth of Virginia to the Justices of Isle of Wight County greetings: Whereas by the annexed deed of bargain and Sale bearing date the 22nd day of February 1814 Josiah Wrenn and Ann his wife have sold and conveyed unto James Simpson all that tract or parcel of Land lying in Surry County containing by estimation four hundred & twenty five Acres, be the same more or less. And Whereas the said Ann cannot conveniently travel to our Court of our said County of Surry to acknowledge the same: Therefore we do give unto you, or any two or more of you, power to receive the acknowledgment that the said Ann shall be willing to make of the Conveyance aforesaid, and we demand that you personally go to the said Ann, and examine her prively and apart from her said husband, first explaining to her the said Indenture and this Writ and enquire of her whether she signed and Sealed the said Indenture freely and voluntarily without the pursuasions or threat of her said husband and whether she be willing the same should be recorded in our said Court of Surry County, and when you have received her acknowledgment, aforesaid, that you distinctly and plainly without delay send and Certify the same to us under your hands and Seals, returning the said Indenture and this writ: Witness John Faulcon in the 38th year of the Commonwealth John Faulcon C.S.C. Isle of Wight County to wit Pursuant to the within Commission Mr. John Blunt and Isham Jordan two of the Justices of the County aforesaid have personally waited on Mrs. Ann Wrenn widow of the within named Josiah Wrenn, and having shown and explained to her the annexed Indenture together with this writ or Commission, she acknowledged that she signed, sealed and delivered the said Indenture freely and voluntarily, without the pursuasions or threats of her said husband, and was willing that the same, together with the acknowledgment should be recorded in the County Court of Surry.
