I, do hereby apply for a pension under the act of the General Assembly of Virginia, relating to Confederate pensions. I do solemnly swear that I am a citizen of the State of Virginia, and that I have been an actual resident of said State for two years next preceding the date of this application, and that I was a soldier (sailor or marine) of the Confederate States in the war between the States, and that I am now disabled, and that from the effects of such disability I am now incapacitated from following my usual and ordinary occupation, or any other occupation for a livelihood; and that during the said war I was loyal and true to my duty, and never, at any time deserted my command or voluntarily abandoned my post of duty in the said service, and that by reason of such service and disability I am now entitled to receive a pension under the provisions of said act. His name appears as signature to a Parole of Prisoners of War, given in accordance with the terms of capitulation agreed upon between General Grant and General Lee, on the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia, April 9, 1865. His surviving comrade John W. Robertson was a resident of Norfolk, according to the obit. http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/isleofwight/obits/b632j6ob.txt Helen Haverty King's "Historical Notes on Isle of Wight County, Virginia" (1993, Isle of Wight: Board of Supervisors) does not list him with Co. F of the 61st Va. Infantry {the Isle of Wight Avengers}, but she states a Jacob Bradshaw appears on Hardesty's list, with D/16th Va {the Isle of Wight Grays}, discharged Oct 1864; however, there is no such individual named in the Compiled Service Records for that regiment. (p. 542) The Isle of Wight Avengers were initially a heavy artillery company, F/7th Va. Reserves, but their guns were lost in the evacuation of Norfolk & Portsmouth, Apr 1862, and they served as infantry for the remainder of the war. They were designated as F/61st Va., Oct 1862, Petersburg. (Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/61st_Virginia_Infantry) Jacob & widow Nannie were buried at Beaver Dam Baptist Church- she with her first husband, George M. WATKINS (11/11/1846-2/17/1881). This church was where Jacob had enlisted, 24 Aug 1861.
