All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: David Butler smokepyper@knology.net September 9, 2006, 9:45 am Widow's Bounty Land Claim Elizabeth Butler Bounty Land Claim Form of Declaration for Widow of a Deceased Officer or Soldier State of Virginia County of ISLE OF WIGHT On this 6th day of APRIL A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty FIVE, personally appeared before me, a JUSTICE OF THE PEACE within and for the County and State aforesaid, ELIZABETH BUTLER aged ABOUT 65 years, a resident of ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY in the State of VIRGINIA who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of HOLLAND H. BUTLER deceased, who was a PRIVATE in the Company commanded by Captain DAVID DICK in the 29th Regiment of MILITIA commanded by MAJ. BALLARD OR COL. BOYKIN in the WAR WITH GREAT BRITAIN DECLARED BY THE UNITED STATES ON THE 18TH DAY OF JUNE 1812. That her said husband ENLISTED at ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY on or about the 28th day of AUGUST , A.D. 1814 for the term of THREE MONTHS and continued in actual service in said war for the term of FOURTEEN DAYS and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY on the day of A.D. 1814. She further states that she was married to the said HOLLAND H. BUTLER in ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY on the FIRST day of MARCH A.D. 1834 by one DAVID WHITLEY a MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL and that her name before her said marriage was ELIZABETH COGGIN that her said husband died at ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY on the 9TH day of DECEMBER A.D. 1852 , and that she is a widow at the date of executing this her declaration. SHE FURTHER DECLARES THAT HER HUSBAND IN HIS LIFETIME RECEIVED A WARRANTY UNDER THE ACT OF THE 28TH SEPTEMBER, 1850 FOR 40 ACRES, WHICH HE DISPOSED OF & ? COUNTY SECTION. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which she may be entitled under the act approved the 3rd day of March, 1855.
