Crumpler, Jr. Injured By Explo- sion Xmas. Morn ___ George Crumpler, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Crumpler of Smithfield, was taken to the Buxton Hospital Christmas morning suffering from painful injuries received sitting in his car in front of the Texaco Station. Mr. Crumpler had opened two small firecracker bombs and placed the powder from them in a small mayonaise jar, which was on the seat between his legs. As he opened the third bomb, it exploded and the glass jar shattered, cut him about the legs and face. He was momentarily blinded and his hair burned. The explosion broke a window in the car, made a large hole in the seat, badly sprung a door and blackened the car on the interior. Mr. Crumpler was opening the bombs to secure powder for firing a signal gun owned by John Grinnan. Several other boys sitting in the car were uninjured. Mr. Crumpler, who is reported to be getting along nicely at this time in the Buxton Hospital at Newport News, is employed by the American Canning Company in Richmond. "Geo.
