The plant, of fire-safe construction throughout, will cost about $100,000. Approximately 4000 tons of peanuts can be stored in bulk in four silos, each 32 feet in diameter and 125 feet high. The storage plant will be able to receive 40 tons of peanuts an hour and carry them by belt conveyors and bucket elevators to a penthouse on top of the silos. From there the peanuts will be discharged into the silos for storage or carried by belt conveyor to an existing processing mill. The silos and the conveyor tunnel will be of reinforced concrete construction and the unloading shed and the penthouse will be built with a structural steel frame covered with corrugated asbestos roofing and siding. Construction is expected to be completed before the harvest season in November. *Additional information: The Zuni Storage Co. caught fire 22 Nov 1963 - the day of JFK's assination - and continued to burn for months.
