ARVIS [sic; AVIS] Windsor, Va., July 5 - (Special) James E. Arvis, aged 80 well-known citizen of Isle of Wight County died tonight at 8 o’clock at his home here. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary M. Arvis; three daughters, Mrs. W.F. Dosie, Mrs. Cora Spivey and Mrs. R.W. Lewis all of Windsor; two sons, James D. Arvis and John H. Arvis; one stepdaughter, Mrs. W.T. Johnson; a half-sisters Mrs. C.E. Spivey; a half-brother, Hardy Darden; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. James E. Jesse JOHNSON. Birthdate &c. from D.Cert. 18479 (Windsor #4), which gives son of John and Malinda (Darden) Avis. Magdelena DARDEN, dt/o George & Martha DARDEN, 1m. John AVIS, 16 Oct 1848. Widowed (possibly by 1860) she 2m. James DARDEN, sn/o Hardy & Nancy DARDEN, 28 Jan 1864; the IoW. M.Reg., quite confused during the Civil War, gives them both as single. (1864 #9) James d. 1 Nov 1874. Magdelena d. 4 Nov 1912.
