All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN HARDY AVIS WINDSOR - John Hardy Avis, 69, farmer of Carrsville, died Friday in Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after an illness of several weeks. He was the husband of Mrs. Mildred Garris Avis and a son of James Edward and Mrs. Mary Mildred Spivey Avis of the Colosse community. He was a member of Colosse Baptist Church and Beech Camp 181, Woodmen of the World. Besides his widow, surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Cora Avis Spivey, Mrs. Lillie Avis Beale and Mrs. Ryland G. Lewis, all of Windsor; a brother, John B. Avis of Carrsville; and a half brother, W.H. Johnson of Windsor. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of the W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home Sunday at 3:30 p.m. by Rev. Donald E. Trump, pastor of Colosse Baptist Church. Burial was in Colosse Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Dr. Ivan Steele, Esmond Ellis, Taylor Holland, J.P. Carr, Keith Johnson, Shelby Rhodes, Clayton Darden and Edward Lankford.
