TRAVIS ADDISON DEATH OF ESTIMABLE LADY MRS. WILLIAM T. ADDISON SUCCUMBS TO RAVAGES OF DISEASE AFTER LONG SPELL OF SICKNESS. It is with deep regret and sorrow that we are compelled to chronicle the illness and death of one the most amiable and true Christian ladies within the precincts of Smithfield. Mrs. Ida A. Travis Addison, wife of William T. Addison residing about three miles south of Smithfield passed to the great beyond at 11 p.m. Sunday May 13th, after an illness which has extended over a period of about thirty years. Mrs. Addison it seems had been a victim of indigestion and prior to her death had been under the care of a number of physicians and specialists as well as having been compelled to go to hospitals at various times for treatment. Yet with all the science the physicians possessed and careful nursing at home, this disease made such inroads to her system that a number of complications set in, this rendering a permanent cure impossible. Mrs. Addison was born near Grimsby, Canada on Sept. 15, 1865 and was therefore 63 years old when she died. She came to Smithfield about 41 years ago and has been a resident of this locality ever since. She was married to Mr. William T. Addison about 40 years and to this union was born four children, three of whom are living - Mr. Jesse W. Addison, Town sergeant of Smithfield; Mrs. Minnie Crocker, of Newport News, and Mrs. Nellie Langford, who still resides at the home place. There were also twelve grandchildren. When about 13 years of age Mrs. Addison became affiliated with the Methodist faith, and from that time on until her death was a consistent and true follower of this religion. Her unselfish disposition, coupled with her natural desire to be of service and aid to all, with whom she came in contact made for her a host of everlasting friends, who can now realize to a greater extent than ever the true and worthy need of a lady of her noble characteristics. Funeral service were held at Uzzell's Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, the Rev. Somersville, pastor of the church officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery, and was attended by a very large and sorrowing cortege of sympathetic friends. The large amount of floral tributes that covered the bier and room in which the body of Mrs. Addison reposed was a true indication of the esteem in which she was held. To the bereaved husband and children the Times extends along with their many other friends its sincere sympathy. Ida A. (TRAVIS; Mrs. William T.)
